SouthField is joining in 40 Days to Pray. You can click here for a prayer guide.
At the moment this writing is posted, we will be a half hour into the first of five Building Gatherings.
This is an opportunity to look at plans and details up close.
It is also a chance to ask lots of questions and express opinions.
On Tuesdays during the 40 days we've been praying for sound advice.
That advice does not only come from builders and bankers...
We can get great input all the time if we just open our ears and listening to each other.
It's part of the reason I still believe in a congregational church...collective wisdom.
I know that sounds scary to some. When groups are agenda driven, power-hungry and closed-minded, congregational rule can be a nightmare. But so can any kind of human governance. A sole leader can be a cruel dictator. A handful of leaders can form a brutal junta.
When we are at our best...when we care about community, have each others best interests at heart, give each other the benefit of doubt and share the mind of Christ...hearing from everyone is priceless.
Bill Hybel's said it best, "There is nothing like the local church when the local church is working right!"
So, my prayer today is that collective wisdom would be agenda-free, flowing with love and reflective of Jesus.
Your kids are going to gather for the next two weeks to talk about the future of Your church in Channahon.
Help us to hear You and to hear each other.
Make us wise beyond what we can know.
Give us insights that could only come from You.
Help us to not just hear each other, but to listen, to really listen.
Give us sensitivity to each other and great respct for each other.
Help us to experience the sweetness of unity that comes when people love each other and listen You.
