Here's what hit me today...
Colossians 1:28-29 (NLT)
So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. 29That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.
Colossians 1:28-29 (NIV)
He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
These two verses grabbed my by the throat today, and I wanted to know more. My first step was made really easy by youversion.com. I looked at the passage in no less than ten other translations. We are really so privileged to live in a time that so many translations of the Bible are available. It adds riches to our study as we simply compare translation with translation..
This passage is in the running for a life passage for the "second half" of my life.
Three four stand out:
Paul's singular focus...Christ, period.
Paul's mission...Spiritual formation, bringing people to full maturity in Christ.
Paul's passion and determination...I struggle so hard, I strenuously content.
Paul's power...Christ's mighty power works within me, Christ so powerfully works in me.
I've been thinking a lot about the last one in recent weeks. American Christianity seems to be suffering a power outage. We can dust up a flurry of activity, but does Christ do anything in us, though us? Is it His power at work or just us?
